2005 Yunnan CNNP Green Mark Ripe Pu’er
The Green Mark (绿印) Pu’er tea is one of the most recognizable export designs in the history of Chinese tea. Originally produced under the state-owned China National Native Produce & Animal By-Products Import & Export Corporation (CNNP), this mark signified not just a brand but an entire era of post-1950s Chinese tea exports. These cakes were crafted with the intention of showcasing the quality and heritage of Yunnan Pu’er tea to the global market.
CNNP operated through regional branches, and this particular cake was manufactured by the Yunnan Tea Branch, which was instrumental in organizing, exporting, and promoting Pu’er during the late 20th century. Their cakes were often marked with a colored "印" (seal or mark) — like green, red, or blue — denoting batch, recipe, or market distinctions.
Green Mark cakes gained fame not only because of their balanced, reliable flavor but also due to their consistent aging potential. Many collectors and drinkers prize CNNP cakes for their connection to the golden era of state-controlled tea production and their ability to age gracefully over decades.
